Chicken Cutlets with Cheese Crown

Impressing your kids to getting them to eat is a challenging task.  You need to make their food appealing, delicious and some innovation is required every now and then. Thankfully, Cutlets are one of the most loved snacks. You can make them with chicken, meat or veggies ( hiding all those healthy vegetables in them). These chicken cutlets are an absolute delight, both among kids and adults. I say this, as the plate got emptied in a jiffy leaving just two for me to photograph 😉 .

I have adorned these chicken cutlets with cheese crowns ( the idea taken from a video from Your Food Lab). My son was excited to see this topper on top of his cutlet. Cheese, is after all, a humble weakness of everyone ( myself included).

You can make this as a party food as well. Your guests will be highly impressed. The good part about cutlets is that they can be very well prepared in advance. Shape the cutlets and coat with bread crumbs and let them freeze individually in the freezer. Once frozen, keep all the Cutlets in a ziplock bag until further use. This saves a lot of time on the day of the event, say a party. It can even be handy in the blessed month of Ramadan. Just make a batch of these and store in your freezer to devour during iftar. Cutlets make one of the best iftar recipes. The cheese crowns can be made about 2-3 hours in advance. Making them quite early reduces its crispness.

Here’s how you can make chicken cutlets with cheese crowns. For a vegetarian version, you can add veggies like carrots, capsicum, cauliflowe, broccoli etc.


250g boneless Chicken, cooked and shredded

1 large Potato, boiled and mashed

1 cup sweet Corn kernels

2 tbsp Red Chili Powder

1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Cumin powder

2 tbsp chopped Coriander leaves

Salt to taste

1 egg, beaten with Salt and pepper

1 cup breadcrumbs

Oil for frying

1 cup mozerella cheese

1 tbsp cheese

1 tbsp Tomato ketchup

Method :

Chop corn kernels in a chopper for 2 seconds. It shouldn’t become paste.
Mix shredded chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, red chili powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt and coriander leaves. Mix well.
Form Cutlets of medium size from the mixture. Dip in egg mixture and coat with bread crumbs.
Fry in hot oil till golden brown. Remove and place on an absorbent paper.
To make cheese crowns : Heat a pan, sprinkle some mozzarella cheese on it. As the cheese melts, it sticks to one another.
Gently lift the cheese from one edge of the pan and place it on a narrow inverted cup. Place another cup on it to give it a shape of a crown. Let stay for 15 seconds.
Lift it off the cup. Your cheese crowns are ready.
To serve, place the cutlet on a plate. Spread cheese and drizzle some ketchup on the cutlet. Place crown on the cutlet and serve.
