Spicy Corn Chaat

Do you have a bunch of surprise guests knocking at your door? Is your first thought – What am I going to serve them?! It is a nervous feeling when people pop in unexpectedly, there is no time to prepare elaborate dishes to serve them nor is it right to keep guests waiting for long. 

Once, when I was faced with such a situation, I quickly grabbed a couple of things and prepared this delicious corn chaat , which to my surprise, turned out to be a total life saver. I had a packet of frozen sweet corn kernels.  Frozen corn is always available at my home. I usually use them in fillings for sandwiches and also as an ingredient in Pulaos. You can also add some green chutney on top of the corn. I didn’t have any at that time so I prepared this without the chutney. It was delicious even without it. 


2 cups sweet corn kernels

2 tbsp butter

1 tsp red chili powder

1 tsp chaat masala

1/2 tsp dry mango powder

Juice of 1/2 lemon 

1/2 onion ( finely chopped)

2 tbsp coriander leaves ( finely chopped)

Salt to taste 

2 tbsp sev


Heat butter in a pan.

Add the corn and sauté till it’s warm. If the corn is at room temperature, it is not necessary to heat them. You can mix everything in a mixing bowl. Since my corn was frozen, I heated it up for a while.

Remove from heat and mix red chili powder, chaat masala, dry mango powder and lemon juice. Add finely chopped onions and coriander leaves and salt. 

Mix well.

Put a spoonful of the corn in a serving bowl. Drizzle a generous amount of green chutney if using. Sprinkle some sev and coriander. Serve while it’s still warm.
