Mutton gravy

Thinking of what to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner is one of the most difficult tasks for a Homemaker. Do you agree with me?! I’m sure most of you will agree to this. I spend quite a lot of time each week brainstorming the things to prepare for the whole week. It’s amazing to have everything planned out, makes my cooking so much easier. I always plan to try out new recipes rather than the old and regular ones. There is excitement of trying something new as well as the happy faces of my family members to get to eat something new. My family loves to eat different foods so you know, this makes them delightful.

Anyways, there was this mutton curry that I had eaten at a relatives place and it was all so yummy that I asked for the recipe and I got it memorized ( sort of) in my head. But unfortunately I forgot to write it down anywhere. Of course I should have typed it on my cellphone but I didn’t. Just few days back, this recipe came flashing on my mind as I grabbed a book and pen and wrote it down hastily. I decided to give it a try right that very day.

Guess what?! It came out so delicious just like the one I had had at my relatives place. I wondered why I hadn’t tried this before. I’m sure this will be a regular on my menu now. Here’s how you can make this tasty mutton curry.

Ingredients:

For the marinade-

500g mutton, cut into chunks
2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 cup yoghurt
1 small onion
2 green chilies
1/2 cup coriander leaves
1/4 cup mint leaves
1 tbsp whole black pepper
Salt to taste

For the curry –
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 green chilies
1 cardamom
2 cloves
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp Garam masala powder
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1 tbsp chopped coriander
2 tbsp fresh cream

Method:

To prepare the marinade :

Grind together onion, green chilies, black pepper, coriander leaves and mint leaves. Mix in a bowl with ginger garlic paste and yoghurt.
Add mutton pieces and mix well. Leave for about 2 hours in refrigerator.

For the curry :

Heat oil in a pan. Add cardamom, cloves and bay leaf. Add chopped onions and green chili. Cook till the onions are transparent. Add the mutton along with all the marinade.

Cook on medium high flame to roast the mutton for about 5 minutes. Keep stirring in between.

Add 1 cup water and close the lid. Let the meat cook till it is tender. Now add coriander powder, cumin powder and Garam masala powder. Mix well. Add cream and mix. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.

  2. Mutton curry tastes amazing. I just can’t stop my cravings after I see it in a picture or restaurant. It is super easy to cook, but needs practice though.
