Yeast is used in breads to make them rise. They are mixed while forming the dough. The dough then is left for an hour. The yeast makes it double in size.
There are basically two types of yeast. Active dry yeast and instant yeast. No matter which yeast you use, your end result will be the same – the dough rises.
What is to be known is which yeast should be used in what way.
The active dry yeast should be first dissolved in warm water before use. Add yeast in half of the required water. Stir. Leave for a while, about 5 minutes. The yeast would have dissolved making the solution frothy now use this while mixing the dough.
Instant yeast, as the name implies, is instant and can be mixed directly into the dough.
To check the freshness of any yeast, sprinkle in half a cup of warm water with a pinch of sugar. Stir. Wait for some time. If the yeast gets dissolved it is good to use.if it doesn’t dissolve that means your yeast is past its usage time.
Always remember to store the un used yeast in the freezer to maintain its freshness.
