100 days of Homemaking Skills Series: Day 11 – Home Remedies for Headache

We all have experienced headaches at some point in our lives. Headaches are generally of three types – tension headaches ( If you are going through hard times, or thinking and rethinking about your problems, you may experience this type of headache. It is caused by the muscle contractions in the head and neck region) ; migraine headache ( due to some abnormal brain activity, a headache may occur due to a trigger mainly allergies, light or even dust) ; and cluster headache ( the kind of headache that occur at the back of the eye).

Though the common solution we do is to take an over the counter medicine but there are some home remedies that can help ease the pain. Home remedies are safe and can be effective if done consistently.

1. Apply oil and massage forehead and temples. You can use peppermint oil, lavender oil, tiger oil, tiger balm.

2. Applying ice pack at the back of the neck reduces inflammation of the nerves and thus reduces head aches. This remedy is highly effective when done twice a day.

3. Ginger is also an effective ingredient for reducing headache. Mix equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice and consume two to three times a day for relief.

  1. Tiger balm is so good for headaches. I use to place ice on my neck but the headaches got much worse. The doctor told me that heat would be a better idea as the cold shrinks the blood vessels.

    1. Depending on the type and reason of headaches, different treatments work. For some ice works wonders and for some the heat. Thanks so much for commenting!
