Chicken Kofta Curry

Chicken kofta curry makes a yummy meal on those days when you wanna indulge in some spicy and creamy gravy and just plainly enjoy every bite of your meal. Although you can make a similar version with lamb mince as well, but I prefer using chicken. This is going to be a surely loved recipe of your family and friends. So put on your chefs apron and make this tasty curry and then sit back and devour them.

Ingredients

For koftas:

500g boneless chicken
1 egg
1 tbsp ginger – garlic paste
1 small onion
2 green chillies
1 tsp Garam masala powder
2 tbsp coriander leaves
Salt to taste
1/2 cup bread crumbs

For the gravy:

2 cardamom pods
2 cloves
1″ cinnamon stick
1 large onion
2 tomatoes
2 tbsp ginger – garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tbsp red chili powder
1 tsp Garam masala powder
1/2 tsp jeera powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
2 tbsp coriander leaves
1/2 cup yoghurt
10 almonds
10 cashews
Salt to taste
4 tbsp oil

Method

Grind all the ingredients mentioned for the kofta except for the bread crumbs. Keep in the refrigerator for an hour.

Make a paste of almonds and cashews and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan. Add cardamom, cloves and cinnamon and cook till you get a beautiful aroma of these spices. Add chopped onions and cook till soft. Add the tomatoes and cook till they turn mushy and oil starts to leave from the sides. Let this mixture cool. Then blend in a blender.

Return the ground mixture into the same pan. Add all the spice powders. Add yoghurt and stir, then almonds and cashews paste. Add 1/4 cup water if the gravy seems to be very thick. The amount of water is based on how much gravy you want. Cook for two more minutes and switch off the flame.

Now add the bread crumbs to the chicken mix and make small round balls. Coat in some more breadcrumbs and either deep fry in hot oil or bake in an oven till golden brown. I have baked my koftas and they turned out crisp and brown.

Put the koftas into the curry and simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with naan or rice.
